Like most surgeries, the breast lift procedure does in fact leave scars; however, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Liu makes the incisions as inconspicuous as possible while still being able to achieve adequate lift and re-shaping of drooping breasts. The location and appearance of breast lift scars depends on what type of incision is used. Depending on the degree of sagging in the skin, incisions may be made:
- In an anchor shape, from the base of the breast upward, and around the areola
- In a doughnut shape around the areola
- Vertically, extending up the base of the breast and around the areola
With all incisions, they will look the most red and be the most raised right after surgery and in the days following. Over time, scars begin to fade, becoming lighter and flatter. After about 6 months to a year, your scars will more or less have their permanent look. For many patients, the scars become lighter in color and are not noticeable under low-cut tops, bras and bikinis.
