Understanding Fillers

Why trust your facial injectables to just anyone? 6 things to consider before deciding where to make your appointment:

You are not "buying Botox."

Injectable results are very technique and application dependent. In other words, the "injectable" is as important as the "injector." You are buying the knowledge of how to achieve the look you desire. Getting a great look is predicated on finding someone with aesthetically appropriate judgment, discretion and solid experience in facial rejuvenation.

Why bother with a consultation?-it's only injectables.

Do you need wrinkle reduction? Volume? Shaping? Or all three? The injectable revolution has made so much information available to the prospective patient that there is widespread misunderstanding about what each product can and cannot do. The consultation is as important as the procedure itself. You can schedule a consultation and treatment the same day. It's important to know what you want to accomplish and equally important that you understand all the appropriate options available to achieve the look you desire.

Every action has a potential reaction.

Understanding facial anatomy and consequences of using the various injectables are what set our practice apart. For instance, while Botox may eliminate the "elevens" between your brows, it can "drop" the middle parts of your brow by a couple of centimeters. The lines are gone but you look angry. We know how to counteract this by reshaping the brow line for a mini brow lift, giving you a nice, relaxed look. The consequence is avoided because the reaction is anticipated. Conversely, some lunchtime fillers may take up to one week recovery time. Wouldn't you want to know that in advance?

Who is at the controls?

Don't assume "physician supervised" means "physician administered." And "physician" can mean a wide variety of practitioners-who are not facial specialists. Injectables are not cosmetics. A group called the Physicians Coalition for Injectable Safety has recently been established to stem the tide of untrained practitioners. Many patients are unaware that complications can occur-bleeding, asymmetry, under or over correction. Consumers learn too late about adverse results that may be temporary in nature, but still last several months. Who wants to look bad even temporarily? Extensive use of fillers can make a patient appear paralyzed, puffy or distorted. Minimally invasive does not mean "carefree."

Will seeing an aesthetic surgeon cost more?

Our prices are very comparable to what you may find at a medi spa. A better question to ask is, "Are you getting more?" You want the best results possible. As board certified plastic surgeons, you can be assured we have the focus and expertise necessary to maximize even the most minimal rejuvenation technique. Sometimes you get more than you bargained for by taking the "best deal."

What can I expect from Bay Area Aesthetic Surgery?

Creating a great patient experience is the mission of every staff member and physician at Bay Area Aesthetic Surgery. What does that mean? It means you can expect to be treated as if you were our only patient. Focused attention, continuity of care and careful follow up are the hallmarks of our practice. All injectable patients are given a consultation by our surgeons because there are so many alternatives available-we want to be sure you are well versed in all the options. We also like to see all our new injectable patients return within two weeks of their treatment so we can gauge the effectiveness of the treatment. Some fillers work better than others for individual patients. We will keep you informed of your next appointment in order to maintain your new look. At our practice, you will never feel anonymous.
