How Does SmartLipo Work?

SmartLipo is a meticulously calibrated laser that uses a small cannula (tube) to rupture fat cells through the top layers of the patient's skin. The laser also liquefies the fat deposits and the oily substance is then removed by Dr. Beck through small incisions. This also allows him to prevent the fat from seeping back into the cells and patients experience immediate results with continued improvement over the next few months. During the procedure, the laser also coagulates blood vessels, which leads to minimal swelling, bruising and bleeding. SmartLipo is generally performed under local anesthesia, and lasts about 45 minutes to one hour for each body area.

Who is a Candidate for SmartLipo?

SmartLipo is ideal for individuals who already lead a healthy lifestyle, but are having difficulty eliminating excess fat through exercise and diet. Most patients who undergo the procedure are generally 20-25 pounds overweight. Candidacy is determined based on the patient's medical history, current conditions, if any, aesthetic goals and expectations. Dr. Beck will review both the benefits and the risks of SmartLipo with each patient during the consultation appointment.

Recuperation

SmartLipo is often referred to as "Lunch Hour Lipo," because it requires minimal recovery time. Dr. Beck recommends that patients take one to two days to recover; however, most patients are ready to return to their daily activities immediately following the procedure. Patients may have to wear some post-surgical garments and bandages to aid in the healing process for one to two weeks. Generally, the skin returns to normal within three months following SmartLipo. Patients are sent home immediately after local anesthesia wears off.

Infection at the incision sites is the only serious risk associated with SmartLipo, however with careful monitoring and follow-up care, most patients reach a complete recovery with minimal complications.
