An enduring symbol of femininity, a woman's breasts can be an important aspect of self-esteem and body image. If you have always wanted larger breasts, or if you want to restore breast size and shape after pregnancy, aging or weight loss, then you are a good candidate for our San Francisco breast augmentation surgery.
Imagine having the breasts you want: your ideal size, shape, and position — in beautiful balance with the rest of your body. At Silicon Valley Institute for Aesthetics, we provide individualized augmentation to help achieve the look you envision for your breasts. If you've been thinking about breast augmentation, it's time to speak with our team.
Are you a Good Breast Augmentation Candidate?
Women who are seeking to improve the shape, size, symmetry or proportion of their breasts may be good San Francisco breast augmentation candidates. Breast augmentation can also correct minimal sag. A breast lift may be recommended if you have significant breast sagging. A word about size: Your body type, chest size and density of breast tissue will determine the implant size and shape. While optimal breast size and shape are personal and subjective, we advise patients to choose the most conservative implant size to achieve the enhancement they desire.
This will decrease the possibility of long term sagging and provide a more natural outcome. We have multiple ways you can visualize potential results as you choose breast implant size:
- VECTRA 3D imaging
- Before-and-after gallery photos
- Breast implant samples to place under your clothes

What is My Next Step?
Getting started with breast augmentation in San Jose is easy. The team will meet with you privately in his Bay Area offices to discuss your exciting options for breast enhancement in detail. This is a great opportunity to voice any concerns or anxieties you may be experiencing, and to better visualize your outcomes. Remember that to us, there is no “dumb question.” We value patient education and aim to ensure each client is armed with a wealth of knowledge before they make a decision to move forward.
During the consultation, the doctor will examine your breasts, your medical history and go over your previous cosmetic procedures. It’s important to fully disclose all medications you may be taking, along with any serious health issues or allergies, as these can affect your experience during and after surgery.
Although we do our best to answer as many questions in advance with this website, here are some basic queries you may wish to make in person during your meeting with us:
- Can you show me before and after photographs of women whose breasts are similar to mine?
- Can I speak with any former clients?
- How many breast augmentation surgeries do you perform in any given year?
- What if I want to get pregnant again?
- How do I choose the best implant for my body?
- What is the difference between the various types of incisions and implant placements?
- What should I expect from recovery?
- Are there any risks I should be aware of?
- What are my payment/financing options?

The Breast Augmentation Procedure
Breast enlargement creates larger breasts and improved breast shape with breast implants. San Francisco breast implants are medical-grade devices that have an outer silicone shell, the surface of which can be smooth or textured. Their shape can be round or shaped. They contain either silicone or saline fill material. A new type of cohesive silicone implant, sometimes called "gummy bear implants," contains denser silicone gel.
Benefits of each implant type at a glance:
Silicone Implants
Silicone is chosen for its smooth, authentic feel, lowered risk of rippling and rupture, and greater durability. For women with a more pronounced loss of breast volume, silicone is often the best selection.
Saline Implants
Often chosen for safety reasons, saline implants are filled with a simple saltwater solution that will not harm the body if they rupture. Other advantages to saline implants include the smaller incisions required, lower risk of complications, and lower cost. For those women with mild depletion of breast fat and tissue, saline implants may present the best choice.
Gummy Bear Implants
Gummy Bears are made from a versatile, tear-shaped, “form-stable” silicone gel that maintains its contours especially well. The implants come in a remarkably wide range of shapes, sizes and textures, which allow them to be highly customized to the patient’s wishes.
Other things to note about the breast enlargement procedure are:
Implants can be placed above the muscle (subglandular) or below the muscle (submuscular). Dr. Jerome Liu, Dr. Tom Liu, and their team will recommend the best approach based on your consultation.
Subglandular Placement
Here the implant is placed above the pectoralis muscles but underneath the breast tissue. Recovery is hastened and discomfort minimized with this choice.
Submuscular Placement
A surgeon will often select this method – placing the implants below the pectoralis muscles – to reduce the likelihood of the implant shifting or rippling, and lower the risk of capsular contracture (hardening around the implant pocket).
Incisions can be located around the nipple (periareolar), in the armpit (axillary) or in the fold beneath the breast (inframammary).
Periareolar incision
Here the doctor makes his incision surrounding the areola, which will conceal any scarring in its dark pigment. When performing breast augmentation in combination with mastoplexy, a periareolar incision is the most common choice.
Transaxillary incision
In this case, the surgeon will create a small incision hidden in the folds under the arm. Once he has formed a pocket, he will then slide the breast implant through the armpit incision where it is snugly cradled within the capsule.
Inframammary incision
Forming the incisions in the inframammary folds, also known more familiarly as the breast creases, offers the advantage of mostly invisible scars post-op. These 3-5 cm long incisions provide the doctor with the easiest path to proper implant placement and adjustment.
Financing for Breast Augmentation
We are aware that securing the proper financing is an important part of any procedure. Insurance does not typically cover breast augmentation treatment sought out for cosmetic reasons, although if a patient is undergoing the procedure due to reconstruction after breast cancer, there may be exceptions. Please check with your healthcare provider. In the meantime, our friendly patient coordinator will work with you to figure out the best payment options for your needs.
Some of the lending companies we work with include:
- Prosper Healthcare Lending
- CareCredit
- United Medical Credit
